Are you a researcher interested in starting to understand the foundational economy of your place? In this open-access library, we will share conceptual, empirical and methodological tools to get started with foundational analysis.
In the first instance, we will share the baseline FE classification of employment and output, which enables you to get an idea of the size and characteristics of the foundational economy in your region or city.
- Here you can download the spreadsheet with the 5-digit SIC codes (Standard Industrial Classification) and the 4-digit NACE codes (Nomenclature statistique des activités économiques dans la Communauté européenne), which we used to calculate employment and output in the foundational economy in many of our key publications.
- Here you can download a methodological note, which briefly explains our classificatory decisions on employment and output and the internal heterogeneity of the foundational zones (e.g. the distinction between the providential, material, and overlooked).
In a second stage we will add a liveability section on calculating residual income after FE 4 or FE 5 essentials.
